Andy and Nayel Ashkar charged with scamming winning lottery ticket
After the brothers from New York, Andy and Nayel Ashkar went public with their scratch card win that they bought in 2006, a 49 year old married father of two came forward claiming the ticket was his. Lottery officials released the story to the media after finding it suspicious that the Ashkar brothers asked for less money than they supposedly won, in exchange for missing a news conference regarding their win. The brothers on Wednesday pleaded not guilty to charges of attempted grand larceny, conspiracy and possession of stolen property. It is thought that the ticket was legitimately won by the 49 year old man who has recently come forward with his claim.
The lawyer of the Ashkar brothers has said that his clients bought the ticket legitimately and with good reason for not cashing in the ticket until they did.
